J.A. Henckels International Everedge This knife set represents Henckels attempt to push into the low-end market. They've had the high-end market taken from them by Wusthof and Shun so it makes sense that they'd try to do this.

It's a difficult dance, though. How do you provide a low-end product that doesn't steal market from your high-end product, while at the same time provides good quality for your customers? And what to do about the other low-end vendors that don't have the same dilemma?

This set includes a pretty standard mix -- an 8 inch Chef's knife, a 2.5 inch paring knife, a 6 inch utility knife, a 5 inch tomato knife, a 6 inch boning knife and six steak knives.

The blades are sharp out-of-the-box but their no-name steel will likely dull quickly. The handles are durable and dishwasher safe polypropylene.

This is an inexpensive set from a knifemaker with a decent reputation, but you can do better. The Forschner Fibrox Set is just a tiny bit more expensive, but is a much better choice.
