Spyderco's Rescue 93mm knife is great, if you've got hands big enough to match the 4 5/8-inch handle. For those with smaller hands, there is the incredibly similar Rescue 79mm, which equals to a 3 1/8-inch blade and a handle length just over 4-inches. Spyderco claims that "for every design to reach its utmost level of ergonomic comfort and maximum performance we often take features and engineer/rework them into a more diminutive pattern." But the difference between the Rescue 93mm and the Rescue 79mm is basically that one is smaller.
For both, the VG-10 stainless steel blade is flat saber-ground with a SpyderEdge - one large and two small serrations pattered so that the cutting edge is increased by twenty-four percent. The sheepfoot tip is round and blunt, included on this rescue knife to prevent any accidental stabbings while working under the pressure of an emergency situation. An enlarged Spyderco Trademark Round Hole (diameter of 14mm on both) allows for easy one-handed, ambidextrous opening of the blade, even while wearing gloves.
The Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon handle is waffle textured for an excellent grip and ergonomically contoured for comfortable use. I like FRN in handles because it is strong and lightweight. Overall, the 79mm weighs only 2.25 ounces. This is a mid-lockback design knife. The ambidextrous pocket clip works for tip up carry.
