Anyone who's ever tried to fall asleep to late-night TV should already be aware of the Vidalia Chop Wizard. All the TV ads sure make it look easy. It claims it can slice, dice, or chop anything with one swift push. Too often these kinds of products are overlooked because we know the importance of the adage "try before you buy."

However, this is one "as-seen-on-TV" product that shouldn't disappoint as long as you don't mind a few tips to make using it easier:

- Don't get too rough with it. It's not built like Fort Knox. If you slam it closed with each use too hard, the lid and/or hinges will eventually break.

- Weaklings may have a harder time with it than most, but it's still usable.

- Onions may be the trickiest veggie to slice in the Wizard. If you halve or quarter them before dicing, it'll be a lot easier to use! It seems a little prep work might be necessary with some food items, but not most.

- Don't lose the cleaner that comes with it. It's a very helpful little tool in getting all the gunk cleaned out of the blades before you put it in the dishwasher.

One nifty feature about the Vidalia Chop Wizard is the measuring cup on the bottom, ranging from 1/2 to 2 cups. Two different blades are also included with the set: one for chopping and one for smaller dicing.

Bottom line is this... This tool is not a pro's tool. It's never going to replace your Chef's knife. But it might just save you some time in the kitchen. Now stop staying up late and watching those infomercials and you'll save even more time.
